Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard 1 MW DC Power Supply
Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii
US Marine Corps
October 2016 - December 2016
Project Description:
Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard (PHNSY) conducted a test on a 1 MW DC Power Supply and found the unit had low insulation resistance readings. Kalvio was contracted to perform troubleshooting as the manufacturer’s representative on the DC Power Supply.
Kalvio reviewed the technical documentation on the power supply and generated a troubleshooting procedure. Kalvio then went onsite at PHNSY and located the component causing the low insulation resistance readings which was a digital voltmeter measuring the voltage on the power supply output bus.
Kalvio suggested a repair procedure to PHNSY and the manufacturer to replace the digital voltmeter with an analog voltmeter to increase the insulation resistance of the power supply output bus. The repair plan was approved by both parties, and Kalvio performed the repair onsite and obtained satisfactory insulation resistance readings on the power supply output bus.
Kalvio later provided operational training to PHNSY Electrical Engineering and Electrical Shop personnel on the 1 MW DC Power Supply. After the training, Kalvio directed the operational testing of the power supply.
